Clay Richmond President & CEO

With over 30 years of experience in emergency medicine and a lifelong martial artist, Clay Richmond is a dynamic leader in the field. As the President & CEO of Special Events Medical Services (SEMS) since 1997, he has transformed the company into a trusted provider of consultation, organization, and staffing for events of all sizes.

Under Clay's leadership, SEMS has protected numerous high-profile events, including President Obama's first and second inaugurations. With an average of 700-1200 events covered each year, SEMS has become a go-to resource for event safety and medical care.

As an author, Clay's expertise is showcased in the book "Special Events Medical Services," which he created and authored. This comprehensive guide, endorsed by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), has become the industry's benchmark for providing emergency medical care at special events and mass gatherings.

Beyond his work with SEMS, Clay has served as a Maryland Pharmacy Board Member, appointed by the Governor. He has also contributed his skills and knowledge as a Paramedic for the Baltimore City Fire Department, where he excelled in various roles, including Paramedic Field Training Officer, Instructor, HazMat Technician, and Rescue Technician.

Clay's educational background includes studying  Engineering at the University of Maryland  and later Franklin Pierce College, where he not only pursued his academic interests but also showcased his talent as a tennis player. 

In addition to his professional achievements, Clay has been actively involved in various volunteer roles. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Department. As an Assistant Tennis Coach for the USTA Junior Development program, he has nurtured promising tennis players. Furthermore, he has dedicated his time as a self-defense instructor.

Clay's accomplishments have been recognized with numerous honors and awards, including a Certificate of Appreciation from the Olympic Committee during the 2012 Olympics, being named one of "40 Under 40 Top Business People" by The Daily Record, and receiving the Paramedic of the Year award from the Baltimore City Fire Department.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Clay remains passionate about martial arts, computer programming, and supporting causes such as The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, The Cystic Fibrosis Society, and the Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Department.
